today in class (started hosting class last week at BecomeAHost.com….YAY! this is my “reason for being here” my peoples! ) the instructor was Mr. Pablo Pereira. He is a journalist/meteorologist who has been in the news biz for over 25 years. To start his lecture, he gives us a current events quiz. i’m thinking “hey, this shouldn’t be so bad…”
So, before i divulge anymore information about the evening i have to know… how current are you on “current events”?
and if one were potentially interested in boning up on their daily news, what outlet of media do you find interesting and informative, preferably in a context that is fun to read? (…is this asking too much?) By this i mean, I probably am not going to subscribe to CNN.com.
ok, so back to the story.
Lets just say, I’m gonna need for you people to comment immediately with your favorite sources of daily news! and i might be saying too much here, but I was the ONLY one in the class to raise my hand when he asked if anyone missed the first question which was “Muammar Gaddafi is the president of what country?” Now listen, I am an educated and articulate woman with a college degree to show for it. To my credit, i’m a super busy girl with 2 jobs, a budding video blog (nyuk nyuk nyuk) and forgive me if i would rather spend my free time either sleeping, bargain shopping or making crafts. I am also taking full responsibilty for my ignorance, so i have decided to take action and start subscribing to some source of daily news to make myself more aware.
I’ve decided to wake up at least 15 minutes early every morning to broaden my own local, national and global awareness. (ok, all jokes aside, i am not a morning person and this is asking ALOT, so i might just start out at a couple times a week.) either way, i have to start putting in the effort. “to be a better host, you have to be more inquisitive“ says Mr. Pereira. More inquisitive?? now you’re speaking my language! This, of course, struck me…being the self-proclaimed most inquisitive girl in the world, and it’s evident that i have so much more in the world to be inquisitive about…so i need to get crackin!
to add more salt to the wound (and for your own amusement) i scored 3/11 correct answers on the quiz. your girl needs HELP. hook it up.
