Vanished like a GHOST.

13 Nov

Golly. It’s been a while since I’ve re-visited. I apologize for the delay. In my defense, however, October was a very busy month for me. Just wanted to give you the very good reasons it has been so long since you have heard from ashleyinquisitive.

Reason No. 1: This is a cake a created for one of my best friends, who’s a lead on Hart of Dixie, the newest show on the CW, and you should definitely check it out (Mondays 8/9c) because all the cast members are HOT (most important reason, duh.) and TALENTED (just kidding, this is the main reason) and the story line is witty and fun. (stemmed from the same creator as the OC and Gossip Girl) I think i’ve given you enough reasons to at least give it one look. :)

CAKE DEETS: this badboy was delightfully consumed at one of Scott’s HoD viewing parties, and special thanks to Tasty Edible Prints for creating an amazing edible photo of his character, George Tucker.  It was my first time to utilize the “basketweave” technique on this 4-layer vanilla cake/vanilla icing extrordinaire, and it fit the theme of Bluebell, Alabama to a T.  Plus Scott’s handsome mug on a cake? Crowd pleaser.

Reason No. 2: I got the privilege of baking my very first groom’s cake for one of my dearest friend’s wedding in Austin, Texas.  That’s right, this required me to be a bridesmaid, a baker, and a nomad.

CAKE DEETS: It’s a red velvet, record player cake replica of a record player owned by the groom.  Note to self: traveling, cake baking and wedding participating = quite the task.  Either way, it was a delightful celebration and I was very honored to be such an important part of these lovebirds memorable day.

Reason No. 3: Upon arrival home from wedding festivities, I was asked to create a cake for a friend OF A FRIEND’s baby shower. (this is what they call networking, people!)

CAKE DEETS: The happy couple is expecting a little boy, and the mama-to-be’s nick name is “Bear”…enter “baby butt” cake!  It was SO loved, that the expectant mother is saving the little rice krispy feet to incorporate in her future wedding cake. What a totally amazing, excellent honor!

Reason No. 4: A friend of mine who is a publicist asked me to create her boss’ birthday cake. (this lady is a very prominent figure in the industry)

CAKE DEETS: The birthday girl is obsessed with skulls, she loves pumpkin spice cake with chocolate icing, and her birthday was the week of Halloween.  So, I decided to make a small skull cake with an assortment of “ghastly” cupcakes around it.  I was fortunate enough to find Duff Goldman’s “Chocolate Chip Spice Cake” on clearance at Michael’s.  (I literally stumbled upon it, otherwise I had no ideas where to find pumpkin spice cake mix?)   The final product turned out awesome, and my girlfriend’s boss LOVED it. It was an amazing opportunity, and I actually have been brainstorming a new concept based on it.  Stay tuned!

So there ya go. 4 cakes (and two sets of mini candy corn cupcakes for my security guard friends on the Sony lot) and 2 jobs makes me a very busy girl.  I’m actually heading home as we speak (this segment brought to you straight from a United Boeing 757) where I will be throwing my sister a belated 30tth birthday party and partaking in another baking adventure. Can’t wait to show and tell you more about it.
